Review: Alien (1979)

Written in: 26/11/25 / Movie released in: 25/05/79 / Director: Ridley Scott

Synopsis: While coming back to Earth, the crew of the Nostromo, a spaceship, receive a call for help coming from another planet. They're sent to investigate, discover an alien spaceship and, after returning to the ship, they now have one more living creature inside the Nostromo. Now they need to survive.

Woooah, this movie is kino! I wasn't expecting it to be that good! Sensational ambience, it doesn't even look like a 1979 movie: the spaceship, the alien planet, "Mother"... Everything has a sort of "metallic-organic" aspect to it, with a lot of curves, tubes, dirty machinery, etc.
Each character is different from the others and they have their own reason for being onboard Nostromo. But I figured that Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) would be the real protagonist right at the beginning.
The xenomorph is cool as well. The adult form, of course. The newborn is a weird little worm. I wonder what all those eggs were doing in the spaceship and why the hell did Kane (John Hurt) have to take a good look at one of them that just opened before him. Stupid-ass guy.
Because of that, the Nostromo turned into an unknown and hostile environment for the crew... Things got intense!! Some scenes are really bone-chilling...
At the end, I was really expecting the reveal of the cat being infected with the alien and a new one would be born. It didn't happen and that surprised me positively.

Review: Predator (1987)

Written in: 07/11/25 / Movie released in: 12/07/87 / Director: John McTiernan

Synopsis: 7 USA soldiers are sent to a jungle in Latin America to investigate the disappearance of one of their squads. They soon find out that, besides the enemy, there's something else in the jungle that's hunting them one by one.
This movie rocks, just pure action!!! When I watched it, I thought it was going to be focused on horror (like Alien), but as soon as the choppers came up in the intro, I knew I was in for something else. They managed to capture the claustrophobia and humidity of the jungle splendidly. The scenes where you can see through the predator's heat vision help to put the viewer on edge. There are some scenes that spook a little, but nothing much. I had never seen the predator's design before, so the revelation was awesome. Its looks are rad. But I was hoping for something more animalistic, less humanoid...
The last 40 minutes or so are a one on one showdown of Dutch (Arnold) with the predator, almost without any dialogue. So rad!!!
But I'm not sure if I'm going to watch the other movies. I believe that as they squeeze out an ideia, it gets worse, and sometimes it's better to stop at the first one. Maybe I'll watch the second movie.
